Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir stated that his new deputy, Rosan Roeslani, is ready to continue the ministry's objective of transforming SOEs in Indonesia.

Minister Thohir expressed belief that Roeslani wields a wealth of experience that can help to drive the ministry's grand strategy to make SOEs competitive in the global arena.

"Mr Roeslani has unquestionable credibility and capabilities," he noted in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday.

On Monday, President Joko Widodo inaugurated Roeslani as the SOEs Deputy Minister II. Earlier, Roeslani served as Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce for the 2015-2020 period, and most recently, as Indonesian ambassador to the United States.

The minister also stated that Roeslani's experience in the industrial sector and diplomatic activities will help revivify the ministry's efforts in transforming the country's SOEs.

"Hopefully, this (appointment) will help strengthen our commitment to transforming SOEs to become global players," Thohir noted.

Currently, the position of SOEs Deputy Minister I is held by Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, who formerly served as SOEs Deputy Minister II.

Wiroatdmodjo succeeded Pahala Nugraha Mansury, who is currently serving as the Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister, after being inaugurated by the president along with Roeslani and three other new deputy ministers.

Furthermore, President Widodo also inaugurated SOEs Minister's special staff for communication, Nezar Patria, as deputy of the newly-appointed Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie.

"I would like to congratulate Mr Mansury and Mr Patria, who received great trust from Mr President. Let us hope that they will be able to carry out their duties and mandate," Thohir remarked.

Thohir also expressed optimism that the two figures would bring about positive impacts to their respective ministries, noting that they had crucial roles in the SOEs Ministry's transformation efforts.

He expressed hope that their new ministries would strengthen collaboration with his ministry in the efforts to meet the need for resource supply required to expedite the development of the electric vehicle (EV) battery ecosystem, strengthen energy resilience, and further develop the food industry.

The minister then emphasized that in order to boost the quality of SOEs, his ministry needs to work in synergy and collaboration with various ministries, agencies, private actors, and also the public.
