Bandung (ANTARA) - Bio Farma signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Genrics Africa, Kenya, to elaborate and explore cooperation in technology transfer, manufacturing contracts, registration, supply, and marketing in the private market for Bio Farma-produced vaccine portfolio.

The MoU also concerns cooperation in providing support to governments of their respective countries in the context of grant programs in the health sector.

Director of Business Development of pharmaceutical holding state-owned company Bio Farma, Yuliana Indriati, stated on Monday that Bio Farma welcomed the directive of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment to develop opportunities for cooperation in Africa, especially in Kenya.

"Bio Farma's arrival to Kenya is part of the program of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment in preparation for the president's visit to Kenya in August," Indriati noted in a press statement.

She said that Bio Farma persistently expands the potential for global cooperation, and the signing of the MoU between Bio Farma and Kenya will add to its collaboration portfolio with global partners.

"Thank you for the trust from the coordinating minister for maritime affairs and investment to work with us to open opportunities for cooperation in Kenya," she remarked.

The MoU was inked by Director of Business Development of Bio Farma Yuliana Indriati and Managing Director of Genrics Albert Mburu and witnessed by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of Indonesia Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Minister of Trade, Investment and Industrialization of Kenya Moses Kiarie Kuria on July 14, 2023, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan remarked that several matters, both within the G-to-G and B-to-B frameworks, were agreed upon during the visit undertaken to evaluate preparations for President Joko Widodo's visit to Kenya in August.

"We really believe that many potential results, both G-to-G and B-to-B, for the visit are very important in strengthening relations between our two countries," Pandjaitan remarked.

The activities wrapped up in the two-day business forum have resulted in several achievements, including Pertamina's investment plans in the upstream oil and gas industry and the geothermal sector, plans for cooperation on vaccines between Bio Farma and Kenyan SOEs, plans for the distribution of Combiphar with local partners, plans for livestock import, plans for investment by Indonesian textile companies in Kenya, and plans for cooperation in the palm oil sector.

Minister Pandjaitan explained that Kenya is strategically located, as an important commodity hub, with high economic value, to a wider market, with over 300 million people, to countries around Kenya, such as Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, and DRC.
