This collaboration has very noble goals and functions, but the implementation faces enormous challenges
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) agreed to expand cooperation regarding carbon trading as mandated by the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (P2SK Law).

This increase in cooperation was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) by Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Mahendra Siregar, and KLHK Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar.

"The MoU signing between the OJK and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry is the legal basis for the exchange and use of carbon trading data through the National Registry System for Climate Change Control (SRN-PPI) to be conducted in accordance with applicable standards and procedures," Siregar noted in an official statement here, Wednesday.

Siregar remarked that this collaboration was the foundation to bridge the SRN-PPI with the recording of carbon stock trading through OJK regulations.

"This is an important step and will lead to several other collaborations in the field of human resources (HR), information exchange, promotion, outreach, or roadshow throughout the country and in foreign countries to inform the public and the market to welcome the existence of Indonesia carbon stock exchange," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Minister Bakar also welcomed the collaboration that was marked by the inking of the MoU between the two parties.

“This collaboration has very noble goals and functions, but the implementation faces enormous challenges. Let us continue this hard work with all the challenges. May God bless our steps," she stated.

In the MoU, the two parties agreed on five points of cooperation in the financial services sector and life protection, namely related to policy harmonization, capacity building of human resources, exchange of data and/or information, research, and provision of experts.

This collaboration is a continuation of the previous MoU that was signed on May 26, 2014.

As of now, the OJK Regulation Draft (RPOJK) related to Carbon Trading Through Carbon Exchanges has been consulted with Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and is expected to be promulgated in the near future as part of the preparation process to launch the Carbon Exchange in Indonesia.
