We hope this investment can actually be realized to increase the realization of foreign investment in Batam
Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - American energy storage solutions company Powin LLC has expressed interest in investing in the semiconductor sector in Batam, Head of the Public Relations Promotion and Protocol Bureau of the Batam Concession Agency (BP Batam), Ariastuty Sirait, informed.

"They plan to make manufacturing that will be sent abroad and are expected to produce around 11 thousand units (of semiconductors) annually. They really hope to be able to invest in Indonesia, especially Batam, which has a strategic location," she said in a statement received here on Thursday.

She further said that the agency has welcomed the investment plan since it could support the development of renewable technologies and help the region participate in industrial growth in the future.

"BP Batam welcomes this investment plan from Powin company. This is in line with the government's program for sustainable development," she added.

The effort is a follow-up to a directive from the Coordinating Ministry of Economy Affairs to encourage the growth of the semiconductor industry in Batam City, especially by cooperating with American companies to bring investment to Batam, she added.

Sirait explained that Powin is an environmentally friendly semiconductor company, based in America and Asia. The company focuses on developing future energy technologies, such as solar energy and advanced battery management systems.

The company will start operations in Batam no later than 2025, she added. In the next six to nine months, Powin will collect investment data and information in Batam before registering its investment.

"We hope this investment can actually be realized to increase the realization of foreign investment in Batam," she said.

Meanwhile, the Head of International Business Development at Powin, Miguel Angel Escribano, said the purpose of his visit to BP Batam was to explore investment and learn about investment opportunities in Indonesia, especially in Batam.

"We plan to expand the market to Southeast Asia and we trust Indonesia, especially Batam with a very strategic location because Batam is a free area and has many industrial areas and qualified facilities," he disclosed.
