Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani has affirmed that the Indonesian parliament is ready to host the 2023 ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) that would boost the country's reputation in the world.

"With this trust, countries in ASEAN and even in the world will recognize Indonesia as a potential and dependable country to cooperate with in various aspects. It will also be a credit point for the Indonesian nation to be trusted at the global level," Maharani said in a statement received on Friday.

She also noted that the 44th AIPA General Assembly, expected to be held on August 5-10, will be a platform to showcase the DPR's leadership on the world stage.

The parliamentary diplomacy conducted by the DPR aims to realize world peace and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), she remarked.

Maharani emphasized that the parliament's role in world peace should be optimized amid ongoing tensions between global powers in various parts of the world, such as in Ukraine and the South China Sea.

"If the world is safer, the people will enjoy its benefits," she stressed.

She said that the 44th AIPA General Assembly's theme of "Responsive Parliaments for a Stable and Prosperous ASEAN" is relevant, as parliaments should play their role to address global challenges affecting Southeast Asia.

Parliaments of ASEAN countries should also provide political support to realize a stable and prosperous Southeast Asia, she stated.

"In every opportunity where we are trusted to host international events, the DPR is always committed to providing the best for the event's success and improving Indonesia's positive image," Maharani remarked.

She said that Indonesia has showcased its ability to be a good host by providing modern facilities and adequate infrastructures for international agendas that adhere to international standards.

"During events involving participants from various parts of the world, Indonesia is always successful in presenting a smooth, outstanding, and secure event organization," she highlighted.

Maharani also remarked that hosting international agendas will open more opportunities for Indonesia to be the host of more prestigious events in the future.

"Not only to show our power, but it will also be an opportunity to showcase Indonesia's beauty and potential to the world," she said.
