Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to embark on a visit to China to participate in a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, on July 27- 28, 2023.

"Mr President will head for Chengdu (China). He will be there on July 27-28 to conduct a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping as the main objective," Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi stated at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.

In addition to meeting with Jinping, President Jokowi will attend business meetings with several major business actors in China, she remarked.

Furthermore, the president, along with several heads of state, is scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the 2023 World University Games that will take place in Chengdu City.

Initially, the event was meant to be held in 2021 in the city, but later, had to be postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier, in July last year, the head of state also embarked on a working visit to China as part of a series of visits to three East Asian countries: China, Japan, and South Korea.

At the earlier meeting, Jokowi and Jinping conveyed their respective commitments to intensifying economic cooperation that can benefit both countries as well as the world.

On the occasion, the two leaders also discussed the G20 as well as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), currently being chaired by Indonesia.

Indonesia and China are known to enjoy strong economic ties. According to data provided by the Trade Ministry of Indonesia, the total value of trade between the countries last year had reached US$133.5 billion.

Moreover, in the past five years, the growth in trade value between the two countries had hit 17.69 percent. (
