Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) stated that the acceleration of construction of national strategic projects (PSNs) is of the essence in the efforts to realize an equitable economy in regions.

Kadin's Deputy Chairperson for Maritime, Investment, and Foreign Affairs Coordination, Shinta Kamdani, made the statement while attending the Conference on National Strategic Projects Day-2 in Jakarta on Thursday.

"The acceleration of PSN construction is crucial in the efforts to realize an equitable economy in the hopes of fulfilling the people's basic necessities, elevating their living standard, and stimulating development in regions," Kamdani remarked.

On the occasion, she highlighted data provided by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in 2022, outlining that 56.48 percent and 22.04 percent of contribution to Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) were made by Java and Sumatra Islands respectively.

On the other hand, the combined GDP of Maluku and Papua regions is still stuck at the figure below 10 percent, trailing behind the combined contribution of Kalimantan, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara regions.

Furthermore, she spotlighted the importance of improving the quality of human resources in the country, adding that Kadin is currently paying close attention not only to infrastructure development but also to the quality of human resources.

"We are prioritizing both the developments of infrastructure and human resources. To enhance the latter, we are striving to provide training and educational courses in the hopes of developing talents. It should be noted that PSNs require a capable workforce," she explained.

According to Kamdani, Indonesia will have to tackle various challenges ahead, especially on account of the fact that the world is currently experiencing a highly dynamic economic situation, wherein countries witness increased inflation rate and also a high pressure on the banking sector.

According to Kamdani, the world will experience a decline in economic activities in the remaining months of this year as compared to 2022.

Hence, she placed emphasis on the importance of strengthened collaboration between the government and business actors in order to be able to survive amid the economic uncertainty.

Kamdani then expressed hope that Kadin would be able to optimally play its role in bridging the gap between the government and business actors, so they can intensify communication and cooperation, particularly regarding efforts to complete the construction of PSNs.

"Kadin is supporting the completion of PSNs through a strong advocacy. We always prioritize the so-called public-private partnership scheme since we believe that the government as well as business players cannot work separately. Collaboration is needed," she concluded.
