Ensuring energy security and affordability is Indonesia's top priority...Jakarta (ANTARA) - Global collaboration is important for facing the energy trilemma (security, affordability, and sustainability challenges) amid the energy transition push, according to president director of state oil and gas company Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati.
"Ensuring energy security and affordability is Indonesia's top priority while it proceeds to carry out various efforts to reduce carbon emissions to achieve the net-zero emission goal by 2060," Widyawati said here on Friday.
According to her, energy is an important factor driving economic growth so the energy transition must not impact energy supply and affordability.
Every country has a different urgency in responding to the energy trilemma, depending on the level of economic growth and people's welfare.
In 2022, all countries in the world faced the challenge of rebalancing energy security, inflation, and clean energy targets, Widyawati noted.
This challenge cannot be separated from geopolitical conditions, such as the impact of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, which has still not been resolved, she said.

Developed countries tend to have higher energy users per capita compared to developing countries because of factors like higher incomes, better access to technology, and bigger access to energy sources, she added.
Meanwhile, Indonesia is playing a global role in the energy transition given its stores of natural wealth and strategic location, she noted.
Indonesia, she said, has the largest reserves of nickel in the world that can be used as a raw material for electric batteries.
Indonesia has the second-largest tin reserves in the world, the world's sixth-largest bauxite reserves, the world's seventh-largest copper reserves, and a renewable energy potential of 437.4 gigawatts (GW).
The potential for carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) in the country is up to 400 gigatons.
"The government has set the target of 23 percent utilization of renewable energy mix by 2025 and 60–61 percent by 2060. With global support, this target can be achieved faster," she said.
