"The PLTT development plan aligns with the central government's program that targets zero emission by 2060," Acting Head of Bapeten Sugeng Sumbarjo stated during a public gathering to discuss the PLTT development in Batu Bariga Village here on Saturday.
Sumbarjo stated that PLTT is one of the solutions to replace coal-fired plants, as thorium power is considered to be the cheapest source of electrical energy apart from solar, wind power, and others.
"In fact, PLTT does not emit carbon because it uses atoms that release energy, simple as that. There is absolutely no combustion," he pointed out.
According to Sumbarjo, the PLTT construction on Gelasa Island supports the green energy movement.
"With the construction plan of PLTT on Gelasa Island, we can help reduce carbon emissions nationally," he stated.
However, Sumbarjo said, the final decision on the PLTT construction plan on Gelasa Island should get approval from the people of Bangka Belitung Islands, especially residents around Gelasa Island.
"The final decision on this plan is the decision of the nation. It means that it must be approved by many parties, while the new and renewable energy law is being discussed at the House of Representatives," he remarked.
Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands, Suganda Pandopotan Pasaribu, and the National Energy Council's (DEN's) sub-coordinator for monitoring the National Energy General Plan (RUEN) Implementation, Nanang Kristanto, were among others present at the gathering.
President Director of PT Thorchon Power Indonesia Bob S. Efendi and District Head of Central Bangka Algafry Rahman also attended the gathering.
