Depok, West Java (ANTARA) - The University of Indonesia (UI)'s School of Strategic and Global Studies (SKSG) has collaborated with the Indonesian Navy to hold the "Archipelagic Joy Sailing and Research" activity from July 29 to 31, 2023.

The collaboration aims not only to build networking and support the three principles of higher education (Tridarma), but also to connect theoretical and practical learning, said SKSG director Athor Subroto at the UI Campus in Depok, West Java, on Saturday.

He expressed hope that through the activity, research results on strategic issues would be implemented concretely and benefit the community.

SKSG is expected to become a center for multidisciplinary scientific development on strategic and global issues that will make positive contributions nationally and internationally.

"One of these issues is the maritime sector, considering Indonesia is an archipelagic country," Subroto said.

With a vision of maritime development, Indonesia can proactively and dynamically protect its national interests, he added.

He stressed that innovations need to be improved to achieve the ideals of Golden Indonesia 2045 and the goal of making Indonesia the world's maritime axis.

SKSG representative Lydia Freyani Hawadi said the "Archipelagic Joy Sailing and Research" activity has received support from the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Ali, and the 21st Alumni Association of the National Defense Institute (Lemhannas).

"The Navy, as the main component, needs the support of reserve and supporting components so that Indonesia can have strong human resources in the maritime sector," she said.

According to her, public awareness about the importance of national maritime resilience also needs to be enhanced.

Under the activity, at least 44 representatives from SKSG will board the state warship (KRI) Barakuda-814 to explore the foremost islands of Jakarta province.

The participants will sail around the Seribu Islands and the Untung Jawa Island to map the development potential of the region.
