"This IDE building will be a home for scientific development, innovation research, and interdisciplinary engineering education," UI's Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Heri Hermansyah remarked here on Thursday.
The groundbreaking for the building’s construction was conducted on Tuesday (June 6). Hermansyah said the IDE building is part of UI's commitment to preparing reliable graduates who can adapt to technological advances.
According to Hermansyah, the development of technological products can no longer be performed from a single science focus, but requires a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach.
He said this is important to answer global challenges and technological competition between developed countries. Therefore, his side encouraged the IDE lab construction in order to support these technological advances.
This laboratory is expected to be the site where UI students find top discoveries in the technology field.
"This building will be an 'arena' for nearly eight thousand students, three hundred lecturers and researchers in the faculty of engineering to develop science and innovation research, and community service to realize a superior and impactful faculty," he noted.
The IDE building will consist of eight floors and an area of 6,958 square meters. The building adopts the concept of green building, that is efficient in using energy, air, lighting, and air circulation.
Some parts of the building contain recycled materials and certified environmentally friendly wood.
Furthermore, the IDE building will be equipped with an exhibition room, a capstone design studio, an auditorium, classrooms, and the office of the interdisciplinary study program.
Several interdisciplinary research laboratories will also be located at the site, such as the Urban Nexus and Smart City Lab, Sustainable Energy Systems Lab, Energy Transition Lab, Biological Systems Engineering Lab, and Advanced Bio Engineering Lab.
