"This was the initial meeting, and maybe, its results need to be incorporated into a memorandum of understanding (MoU)," NOC Indonesia's Executive Committee Antonius Adi Wiryawan said, as quoted from an official statement here on Tuesday.
Wiryawan is upbeat that the cooperation would facilitate Southeast Asian countries to become more solid and stronger in the field of sports.
NOC Indonesia welcomed the plan to intensify cooperation between Indonesia and Timor-Leste in order to encourage the improvement of sports in Southeast Asian countries.
Secretary General of NOC Timor-Leste Laurentino Guterres, along with the Timor-Leste National Federation of Gymnastic delegation, was received by NOC Indonesia at the International Hall of NOC Indonesia in Jakarta.
"Indonesia has always been my second home. Our visit here is to strengthen cooperation between NOC Timor-Leste and NOC Indonesia," Guterres affirmed.
Through official cooperation, he said, the coordination of training exchanges conducted by Timor-Leste could be more focused and on target that can improve its sports achievements.
He also said Indonesia is strong in several sports, such as weightlifting, boxing, and badminton, and saw cooperation potential through the Olympic Solidarity program.
"We hope that (the cooperation) not only includes training camp for athletes but also the NOC Exchange Program," he remarked.
Recently, Chairman of NOC Indonesia, Raja Sapta Oktohari, said that his side is preparing the Indonesia Olympic Academy program.
Oktohari said the program is part of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) initiative.
Furthermore, he said that this program aligns with the vision and mission of NOC Indonesia for the 2023-2027 period that is "Standing on the World Stage."
