Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry has urged hospitality and cruise ship training graduates to build their global competency and increase their professionalism through various kinds of collaborations.

"The hospitality and international cruise ship industry is increasingly growing, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic period ends," the ministry's director of courses and training, Wartanto, said here on Saturday.

One of the ministry's efforts to support the graduates' competitiveness has been brokering cooperation between state-run ferry operator PT Pelni and the Indonesian Hospitality and Cruise Ship Course Forum (FKPKPI).

The collaboration, which has been realized by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), aims to increase the employability of graduates in the field of hospitality and cruise ship courses or training across Indonesia.

"This collaboration is expected to expand industrial internship opportunities for courses or training instructors and students in order to improve the absorption of graduates," Wartanto added.

The cooperation is not only expected to benefit course instructors and graduates, but also serve as a reference for designing an industry-based curriculum and provide quality assurance for PT Pelni employees by conducting a competency test.

PT Pelni's director of human resources and general affairs, Rainoc, explained that the MoU signing could solve the very high need for cruise ship crews at PT Pelni.

With the cooperation agreement, PT Pelni is committed to advancing the world of education in Indonesia and the growth of the domestic maritime industry.

The cooperation also aims to meet the needs of cruise ship crews in the hospitality division of PT Pelni by providing more opportunities for students of training institutions under the auspices of FKPKPI to intern on ships operated by the ferry operator.
