Labuan Bajo, NTT (ANTARA) - The Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority (BPOLBF) called on the local community to respect delegates of the 42nd ASEAN Summit and strive to give them the utmost comfort.

"As the host (of the summit), we must optimize this event to show the best hospitality (to the delegates), one of which is by maintaining their privacy as well as to offer (them) our best products," President Director of BPOLBF Shana Fatina remarked here on Monday.

The summit is scheduled to take place on May 9-11, 2023, in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, with the heads of the ASEAN member countries and other invited guests in attendance.

During the implementation of the event, the BPOLBF president director urged local residents to maintain the privacy of the state guests by not taking any pictures of the delegates without their permission and solely engaging in conversation with them on important matters.

"Since (perhaps) not all of the guests find chatting (over trivial things) enjoyable," she noted.

Furthermore, Fatina appealed to business players to sell their goods and services to participants of the summit according to the regular prices.

"This matter is also emphasized by the State Secretariat Ministry and the Foreign Affairs Ministry," Fatina noted.

She also called on the managers of the meeting venues and the delegates’ accommodations to improve the hygiene and sanitation standards at all facilities as well as to provide food and beverages according to the required set standards.

In addition, she appealed to managers of the facilities to implement good security and health protocols as well as provide professional and reliable drivers for the VVIP and VIP guests.

The BPOLBF president director expects the government, private sector, and community to jointly support to ensure the success of this international event.

Although the region will be bustling with activities for the implementation of the summit, Fatina made assurance that the daily activities of local people will not be hindered in the process.

"We want to prepare Labuan Bajo to be a MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) destination for heads of state," she remarked.

Indonesia is holding the chairmanship of ASEAN from January 1 to December 31, 2023.
