There will be no (temporary) halt in tourism activities (amid the event); they will be implemented as usual.
Labuan Bajo, NTT (ANTARA) - The Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority (BPOLBF) has said that tourism activities will continue to run normally during the 42nd ASEAN Summit implementation in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, from May 9–11, 2023.

"There will be no (temporary) halt in tourism activities (amid the event); they will be implemented as usual," BPOLBF president director Shana Fatina said here on Tuesday.

She assured that tourists will be able to continue visiting tourist destinations in Labuan Bajo when the summit takes place.

She further said she expects that all tourists will still be able to enjoy their stay despite the expected traffic jams at several locations due to the increase in the number of visitors to the region due to the event.

The BPOLBF has estimated that 1 thousand delegates will attend the summit, while the numbers of national organizing committee and security personnel will reach 300–500 people and 1,300 officers, respectively.

Fatina said that the national organizing committee comprises the State Secretariat Ministry and the Foreign Affairs Ministry, while her party is serving as the local committee.

Hence, special arrangements will be made at a number of locations that will serve as the main venues for the international event, such as Meruorah Labuan Bajo Hotel, Ayana Labuan Bajo Hotel, and Puncak Waringin, she noted.

She also appealed to all parties to help maintain the privacy of state guests by not taking their photos without permission.

In addition, the community must limit their interactions with the delegates to only discussing important matters, the BPOLBF president director advised.

“As the host (of the summit), we must optimize this event to show the best hospitality (to the delegates),” she added.

Indonesia is holding the chairmanship of ASEAN from January 1 to December 31, 2023, with the theme "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.”

The ASEAN Summit meetings would be held twice in 2023: in May in Labuan Bajo and in September in Jakarta.
