He said that he will continue to monitor the high-quality telecommunications networks at the summit location.
"One of the responsibilities of our ministry is to provide telecommunication networks and Internet access to succeed Indonesia as chair of the 2023 ASEAN," he informed in a press release received here on Friday.
In particular, Ismail said that his party will prepare adequate infrastructure network for the 2023 ASEAN Summit.
"For the 2023 ASEAN Summit, which will be held in May 2023 in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the ministry has ensured the readiness of the telecommunications network infrastructure in the region," he said.
The ministry has prepared a 3,773.73-kilometer-long fiber optic (FO) network with 2,055 optical distribution points (ODP). In addition, Labuan Bajo has 1,635 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) and 3 5G BTS, he disclosed.
Regarding the quality of network services, he said that Labuan Bajo has been served by 4G and 5G telecommunications networks. In addition, the region also has fixed broadband operators.
"Some 78.12 percent areas of Labuan Bajo had been covered by 4G signals. Even in residential areas, around 94.51 percent has been covered with 4G and 5G at several points," he noted.
He said that the ministry will also need to continue to monitor the quality of cellular telecommunication networks. Telecommunications service providers must take anticipatory steps to upgrade their network by providing BTS Combat.
"We will monitor the progress through the Telecommunications Monitoring Center. One of the telecommunication providers for the 2023 ASEAN Summit, Telkom Group, is currently making various preparations," Ismail informed.
The preparations include providing BTS Combat and improving several existing BTS in Golomori and Labuan Bajo, which are currently underway with the progress reaching 44.7 percent and are targeted to be completed in the second week of April 2023, he disclosed.
