Based on the official statement received in Labuan Bajo, Indonesian National Police Chief Police General Listyo Sigit, as the representative of Indonesia, signed the MoU with six ASEAN members: Laos, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia.
The MoU encompasses cooperation on the prevention and law enforcement of transnational crime, and it also discusses increasing capacity building between countries.
During the 17th AMMTC session, before the signing of the MoU, Sigit emphasized the importance of prioritizing regional security and stability in order to realize prosperity in the ASEAN.
Sigit stated that ASEAN countries face the same enemy, which is a transnational felony that did not recognize national borders, sovereignty, and law.
He warned that the modus operandi of cross-border crimes had changed, including taking advantage of existing loopholes and technological developments.
Hence, in order to bolster the commitment to combat transnational crimes, Sigit reminded of the need for cooperation and collaboration to think and act as a community while respecting the laws and regulations in each country.
"Let me reiterate the importance of communication and cooperation in maintaining stability, security, and peace in the region," Sigit concluded during the AMMTC session on Monday.
