Jakarta (ANTARA) - Security system at the venue of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup is at a very good level, meaning it is safe to be used for the competition, the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) stated.

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup will be held from August 25 to September 10 in Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines. In Indonesia, the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, will be the venue for the competition.

"The BNPT has carried out an assessment. We see that so far, it is at a very good level," Head of Environmental Security Sub-directorate at the BNPT Indonesian Navy Colonel Setyo Pranowo noted in a statement received on Thursday.

Pranowo remarked that the BNPT plays an active role in ensuring various international events in Indonesia are free from terror threats. Hence, to this end, the agency conducted an assessment of the implementation of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

He explained that the assessment is mandated by BNPT Regulation Number 3 of 2020 in anticipating potential acts of terror that might occur.

"This assessment is a mandate of the BNPT Regulation Number 3 of 2020, in which we must provide improvement to infrastructure, security patterns, security system, and operations control, so that terror acts can be prevented and anticipated," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Operational Director of the Local Organization Committee of FIBA Dewi Rizka Natalia stated that BNPT's assessment is immensely helpful in ensuring the safety of the venue.

"We are very thankful for being able to collaborate with the BNPT for safety and security. We received a lot of inputs on whether the venue is good enough or not," she remarked.

Apart from carrying out on-field assessment, the BNPT also conducted a document assessment.

The document assessment is carried out by checking risk management documents, security plans, as well as report documents of the results of the security evaluation of the event that will be held.
