Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Industry Ministry formed and assigned an inspection team for industrial exhaust emission control in the provinces of Jakarta, Banten, and West Java as concrete action to control industrial sector emissions in reducing air pollution in Greater Jakarta.

"We are overseeing the industrial sector regarding the emissions it produces. Therefore, we encourage industrial companies and industrial area managers, who have their own power plants to control their exhaust emissions," the ministry's Director General of Resilience, Regional, and International Industrial Access Eko Cahyanto said.

According to Cahyanto here Friday, the instruction came from Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita which will be followed up with several efforts, including analyzing and identifying all industrial sectors in the three provinces to obtain accurate data regarding the number of industries owning their own generators.

The analysis and identification aim to monitor critical points related to emissions, including energy generation, production processes, and waste in the industrial sector, he remarked.

"That is one of our focuses in data collection in order to regulate the right policy," he remarked.

Moreover, he noted that his side was proactive in providing guidance to the industrial sector through conducting inspections.

He noted that the ministry conducted four types of inspection, including periodic inspection of industrial sector reports in the National Industrial Information System (SIINas).

This was followed by direct supervision in the field to check compliance with the industry report, including their environmental documents.

The third is an audit conducted by the ministry if violations are found in the industrial sector.

"And the last one is verification on compliance, with statutory provisions that must be obeyed by industrial companies and industrial estates," he stated.

Cahyanto affirmed that these efforts are expected to maintain the activity of the industrial sector and realize a conducive business climate in the country.

However, his side regretted the absence of coordination during the efforts made to stop industrial sector activities.

He then emphasized the importance of coordination between related parties following the news of termination of industrial operations.

"The company we are currently inspecting still meets the ambient air quality threshold. The industry is also still carrying out its production activities," he explained.

According to Cahyanto, the Industry Ministry has encouraged the industrial sector to apply the circular economy concept in its business activities to minimize waste and emissions dumped in industrial activities.

The ministry also provides assistance to the industrial sector to always comply with provisions to maintain their industrial activities and as an effort to maintain the national economy as well, he added.

"We continue to encourage all companies to implement a green industry and to apply environmentally friendly and sustainable standards," he disclosed.
