"Indonesia is playing a crucial role in lowering global carbon (emissions). Indonesia is open to collaboration and cooperation in overcoming global sustainability challenges," he declared in his opening speech at the 2023 Indonesia Sustainability Forum in Jakarta on Thursday.
He pointed out that the climate crisis could cost the global economy as much as US$23 trillion by 2050 and cause 3 million deaths annually. Therefore, he urged all countries to take prompt and collective measures to deal with the crisis.
No party can solve the climate crisis through unilateral action, he emphasized.
All parties need to take necessary actions against the adverse effects of climate change and not leave the crisis unaddressed, Pandjaitan said.
He added that the world is increasingly in need of global-scale measures to ensure sustainability.

"With the spirit of global collaboration, we pioneered the Indonesia Sustainability Forum, a place that brings together global leaders to promote concrete international collaboration to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth," he said.
During the forum, he highlighted several topics of discussion, such as efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and waste produced by economic activities, as well as preserve biodiversity and ecosystems.
He also emphasized the importance of developing the green economy by establishing more eco-friendly businesses while paying attention to the development of the financial sector, technology, and human resource quality to expedite the realization of sustainable growth.
"We are striving to facilitate leaders and key stakeholders to participate in fruitful and productive discussions," Pandjaitan said.
The Indonesia Sustainability Forum will last until September 8, 2023.
