"It is important to coordinate and synergize because youth and sports affairs are shared between the central and regional governments," he said at a press conference on the 2023 Youth and Sports National Coordination Meeting at the Jakarta International Velodrome here on Friday.
Effendy also expressed the hope that the national coordination meeting would produce useful and beneficial ideas for the development of national youth and sports.
"The meeting results need to be useful and under collaboration between the central and regional governments," he said.
He explained that coordination between parties must be strengthened because the issues of youth and sports are common responsibilities. "We need to share (responsibilities). This is important to be realized," he added.
Moreover, he said that the government is focusing on preparing quality human resources.
He emphasized that the younger generation that will become future leaders must be prepared, in view of the demographic bonus and the Golden Indonesia 2045 target.
"President Joko Widodo (has instructed) to prepare superior human resources. Youth is the key to welcoming an advanced Indonesia," the minister said.
According to him, Presidential Regulation No. 43 of 2022 concerning the implementation of cross-sectoral strategic coordination of youth services must be realized properly.
In addition, Effendy explained that youth and sports development aligns with Indonesia's role in hosting this year's ASEAN Summit.
He said that countries in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, have tremendous resources to become centers of global economic growth.
According to him, the theme of this year's ASEAN Summit, "Epicentrum of Growth," is closely related to the development of superior, smart, healthy, strong, and noble human resources.
