Fauziyah explained that the two documents are the "ASEAN Guideline on the Protection of Migrant Workers and Family Members in Crisis Situations" and the "Guidance Document of the ASEAN Declaration on Promoting Competitiveness, Resilience, and Agility of Workers for Future of Work."
"These two guidelines are concrete evidence that ASEAN has the same view to advance the region and make ASEAN the epicentrum of growth," Fauziyah remarked in a statement received here on Saturday.
Indonesia is leading the 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship with the theme of "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth" and the vision of ASEAN's development that is resilient, adaptive, and inclusive.
According to the minister, the "ASEAN Guideline on the Protection of Migrant Workers and Family Members in Crisis Situations" is important, as the number of migrant workers in the region has reached seven million.
"The number (of migrant workers) certainly has a big impact on the economy and progress in the ASEAN region," she remarked.
Fauziyah noted that the significant contribution of migrant workers to the region prompted ASEAN countries to develop guidelines to protect them and their family members in crisis situations.
"This guideline is needed to strengthen the resilience of migrant workers and their families in the context of preparedness in a crisis condition, both in the form of response and recovery from crises," Fauziyah stated.
Meanwhile, the "Guidance Document of the ASEAN Declaration on Promoting Competitiveness, Resilience, and Agility of Workers for Future of Work" covers efforts to harmonize and recognize skills, labor productivity, business development and youth entrepreneurship, and industrial relations.
The guideline also covers social protection, public employment services and adaptive labor market policies, the use of Internet of Things (IoT), as well as increasing knowledge exchange and strengthening ASEAN partnerships.
"This guide is a fair transition concept, which supports the transition to a sustainable and fair economy in facing dynamic labor challenges, such as the impact of the pandemic and digitalization," Fauziyah stated.
