"Jakarta will remain focused on developing public transportation," Jakarta Regional Secretary Joko Agus Setyono stated at the National Transportation Day commemoration event at the National Monument (Monas) here on Monday.
According to Setyono, the provincial government will keep developing public transportation, as the mobility of citizens will not decrease after Jakarta is no longer a capital city. He remarked that Jakarta will also become a global economic city.
Setyono said, the provincial government had begun making preparations to disseminate information to the public regarding the city's status change.
Earlier, Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono stated that the draft law on Jakarta's status is still being discussed by the government.
Meanwhile, he remarked that this year's National Transportation Day carried the theme of "Accelerating for Advanced Transportation."
He explained that with the theme, the Jakarta provincial government is inspired to strive to improve the progress of the public transportation sector and bolster its services by adapting to the latest technology.
He also noted that Jakarta has a long-standing history of managing public transportation, and the achievement of public transportation to date is the result of the work and innovation of earlier leaders.
"As we see in the progress in transportation from each era, now we have the TransJakarta, MRT, and LRT in Jakarta," he remarked.
He expected Jakarta to improve in terms of managing public transportation in order to ensure that residents are satisfied with the services.
All members of the Jakarta Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), officials of the Jakarta Transportation Office, and regional-owned enterprises (BUMDs) in public transportation participated in the National Transportation Day commemoration event.
