The ministry will focus on human capital by integrating climate change content into the Merdeka Curriculum.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology has said that the policy promoting the Merdeka Curriculum has several objectives, one of which is to develop human resources with climate awareness.

"The ministry will focus on human capital by integrating climate change content into the Merdeka Curriculum," Head of the ministry's Educational Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment Agency (BSKAP) Anindito Aditomo said.

According to.Aditomo here on Monday, the subject of climate change has not been fully included in the nation's educational curriculum, while public awareness about climate change has tended to vary.

Therefore, the ministry, he said, will remain focused on building climate awareness among the nation's human resources by integrating climate change content into the Merdeka Curriculum.

The ministry will also try to include climate change lessons in higher education and vocational education curricula.

He revealed that the ministry is planning to modify the standardization of school buildings and the use of the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) for Physical Infrastructure as well as promote green campus management.

The ministry will also bolster low-carbon transformation within its office.

"The role of teachers is very important in ensuring the implementation of climate change education," Aditomo added.

He said higher education institutions can support energy transition through research, education, training, technical, safety, and economic frameworks.

"This includes the regulation to increase the application of Carbon Capture Storage (CCS)/Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS)," he added.

Chair of the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC), Filda Citra Yusgiantoro, said that competent human resources are the key to a successful energy transition in Indonesia.

She explained that in several countries, green jobs that support environmental preservation provide many benefits.

Despite being behind in terms of policy readiness for green jobs, Indonesia has recognized the importance of climate change mitigation and energy transition, she said.
