"We remind mobile operators and internet service providers as well as the stakeholders of communication and informatics sectors to fight together against online gambling. All who facilitate online gambling must be shut down," Setiadi said at the ministry's office in Jakarta on Thursday.
He also called upon the representatives of digital media platforms, such as Meta, YouTube, and Google, to carry out similar measures.
He asked industry players within the digital ecosystem to commit to shutting off all access to online gambling.
"I urge everyone to close online gambling," he stressed.
Furthermore, Setiadi said his ministry has maintained its commitment to fight against online gambling as it directly affects society in terms of economic and social aspects.
In accordance with Instruction Number 1 of 2023 of the Minister of Communication and Information, the ministry has continued to coordinate with other ministries and institutions to eradicate online gambling.
The regulation contains strategic and measurable steps for wiping out online gambling content from Indonesia's digital space.
The ministry's instruction is part of the implementation of Article 27, Paragraph (2), of Law No. 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions, as amended by Law No. 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law No. 11 of 2008.
In keeping with the article, the ministry is seeking to prevent the use of electronic information and/or electronic documents that contain gambling content.
The ministry's instruction is also part of the implementation of Article 426 and Article 427 of Law No.1 of 2023 concerning the Indonesian Criminal Code, which regulates criminal provisions for persons who offer or provide the opportunity to gamble or participate in a gambling company.
