Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is seeking to develop a Central Java fishing corporation by providing a local cooperative unit with a portable frozen warehouse, refrigeration vehicles, and technical guidance.

The support is being provided as an effort to encourage a corporate culture and build upstream to downstream fisheries ecosystems, Director General for Strengthening the Competitiveness of Maritime and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) at the ministry Budi Sulistiyo said.

"We are providing support for facilities and infrastructure to strengthen the fishing corporation of the Cooperative Unit of Mina Saroyo Village in Cilacap, Central Java," he said here Monday.

The portable frozen warehouse facility has a capacity of 10 tons to maintain the quality and price stability of fish, he informed.

"The portable frozen warehouse operation also generates an average net income of Rp20 million per month and absorbs 6 direct workers. So, it is hoped that it can increase the effectiveness of fieihing cooperation of Mino Saroyo Village's Cooperative Unit (KUD)," he said.

His office is also assisting local fishermen by arranging refrigerated vehicles to help expand the distribution of fishery products with guaranteed quality so that their distribution area is no longer limited to Central Java, but extends to West Java, East Java, and Bali.

The refrigerated vehicles can help increase distribution cost efficiency by 30–40 percent or Rp27.5 million per month and generate an average net income of Rp6 million per month, he added.

In terms of workers, the vehicles absorb two permanent workers, and five to seven daily workers are required to unload fishery products from the vehicles.

The facilities, being provided, also include access to financing and business and marketing partnerships.

Thus, the assistance arranged at KUD Mino Saroyo could hopefully become a model for fishing corporations in the future and be replicated in other regions in Indonesia.

Earlier, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.explained that the Fishermen's Corporate Program is one of the national priorities and major projects in the 2020–2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).
