Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) instructed soldiers of the National Defense Forces (TNI) to be sensitive to the global food crisis that is impacting the nation's stability.

"I ask all TNI members to have instincts, awareness, and sensitivity related to this food issue because it significantly determines the stability of the nation," Jokowi stated during the commemoration event of TNI's 78th Anniversary at the National Monument (Monas) here on Thursday.

The president reminded that the food crisis is a matter of concern for all countries. At least 22 countries have restricted their food exports to maintain food stocks domestically.

The current global food crisis is caused by the impact of climate change and disruptions in the global supply chain due to geopolitical instability, he noted.

"I want to highlight on the ongoing crisis in the world, especially the food crisis due to climate change and the disruption to the global supply chain," Jokowi remarked.

During TNI's 78th Anniversary ceremony at Monas, Jakarta, President Jokowi acted as Inspector of Ceremonies. He also boarded a tank to inspect the line of ceremony troops.

This year's TNI Anniversary commemoration raised the theme of "TNI, the Patriot of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), Guardian of Democracy for Advanced Indonesia."

The theme stresses the fact that the TNI, which has three branches, the Navy, the Army, and the Air Force, is the main component of national defense.

Through the theme, TNI underlined its commitment to remaining solid, sturdy, and loyal to NKRI and will continue to guard democracy in synergy with all components of the nation.

During the TNI Anniversary ceremony, some air attractions were demonstrated, including a parachuting stunt by 78 soldiers and members of the National Police (Polri), and training aircraft maneuvers by the Jupiter Aerobatic Team (JAT) of the Indonesian Air Force.
