Jakarta (ANTARA) - Director general of national export development at the Ministry of Trade, Didi Sumedi, has said that the 2024 Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) will focus on strengthening the fashion ecosystem in Indonesia.

"The spirit of the implementation of the JMFW is strengthening the fashion ecosystem," he said while delivering his remarks at the kick-off event of the 2024 JMFW here on Thursday.

According to Sumedi, the rapid growth of the millennial Muslim generation is influencing Indonesian fashion trends, especially modest fashion. The development of modest fashion is also supported by the potential for wealth and local wisdom, he said.

"It is also supported by the high level of environmental and social concern of Indonesia's creative industry players," he added.

Therefore, he said he hoped that collaboration and synergy between ministries, institutions, sponsors, and associations that are engaged in the fashion sector would make the implementation of the JMFW a success.

"JMFW is present to become the icon of collaboration of all relevant stakeholders, not only the government, but also businesses, academicians, and associations, as well as most importantly, the media," he said.

He is targeting to ensure the buzz about the JMFW reaches other countries so that Indonesia can declare itself as the world's trendsetter in modest fashion.

"Hopefully, it can run smoothly, and of course, we do not only want to declare but really (want) JMFW to become one of the world's centers of modest fashion," he said.

He expressed the hope that, through the fashion event, designers of modest fashion in Indonesia would be encouraged to go global.

"Indonesia is determined to make Indonesian modest fashion global," he stressed.

The Ministry of Trade, in cooperation with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and other stakeholders, will organize the 2024 JMFW from October 19 to 21, 2023, at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Tangerang, Banten.
