Jakarta (ANTARA) - State railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has said that it will blacklist two persons suspected of stealing a passenger's belongings on Tawang Jaya Premium Train.

"If proven guilty, then the two suspected thieves of Tawang Jaya Premium Train will get strict sanctions from KAI in the form of being blacklisted for life, (or) unable to travel with all modes of rail transportation within the KAI Group," KAI vice president of public relations, Joni Martinus, said in a statement received here on Monday.

The two suspects were arrested following an investigation by PT KAI and the police into the theft of a laptop and an iPad belonging to a passenger of a Tawang Jaya Train bound from Semarang to Pasar Senen in Jakarta.

The first suspect, identified with the initial W, was arrested at his residence in West Pamulang, South Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday (October 15, 2023). The second suspect, identified with the initial I, was taken into custody in Susukan, Banjarnegara, Central Java.

"In carrying out this arrest mission, KAI formed a team with the police to conduct observation and execution of the arrest of the first suspect at the targeted address, based on the tracking results," Martinus informed.

The first suspect was taken to the Bekasi Regional Police for further process. He is suspected to be associated with an organized syndicate.

Based on information received from the first suspect, the KAI team and the police nabbed the second suspect in Susukan on Monday.

The theft victim had lodged a report with KAI on Saturday (October 14). Based on the report, one iPad and one laptop were stolen from the victim.

To get more information and identify the thieves, KAI checked CCTV footage and coordinated with the police during further investigation.

"We keep improving security both on board the train and at the station. We also ask all passengers to always keep an eye on their baggage. Please put your belongings at safe and supervised places," Martinus said.
