Indonesia turned out to be among the countries assessed by the FIVBJakarta (ANTARA) - Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo met with officials from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) on Tuesday as a follow-up to Indonesia's bid to host the 2025 Volleyball Men's World Championship in Jakarta.
"Today, we held an audience with the FIVB to talk about the discourse on Indonesia hosting the 2025 Volleyball Men's World Championship," Minister Ariotedjo informed, according to information posted on the website of the Youth and Sports Ministry.
He said that FIVB had responded to Indonesia's bid to host the championship by assessing the country's potential in March this year.
"Indonesia turned out to be among the countries assessed by the FIVB. During the meeting, we got a briefing on Indonesia's potential to host the 2025 Volleyball Men's World Championship as well as the benefits of it," he informed.
The minister said that he welcomed FIVB's positive assessment of Indonesia's potential to host the prestigious event, while noting that volleyball has become one of the most popular sports in the country.
He then expressed optimism that by hosting the world championship, Indonesia would be able to further increase international trust in the country, particularly in the field of sports.
"Mr. President (Joko Widodo) wants the international trust to be further bolstered. Hosting the world championship will solidify Indonesia's position in the global arena, especially in the world of sports. Indonesia has been deemed highly potential to host the volleyball world championship," he said.
Meanwhile, chief business officer at Volleyball World, Guido Betti, said that hosting the volleyball world championship could become Indonesia's strategic plan to develop its volleyball scene.
Volleyball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, so a country can gain benefits by hosting a volleyball world championship, he added.
Hosting a world championship is Indonesia's long-term plan to transform into a prominent volleyball country in Asia and the world, he said.
According to the plan, Indonesia will co-host the 2025 Volleyball Men's World Championship with Japan. Several matches will take place in Jakarta from September 17 to October 5, 2025.
The championship will draw participation from 32 countries, with 16 nations competing in Indonesia. A total of 64 matches will be held during the competition.
