Jakarta (ANTARA) - The regional government of the special capital district of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta) is planning to build seven bridges worth about Rp144 to Rp145 billion (around US$9,223) in 2024 to cater to residents’ needs.

“We are submitting a proposal for the program with a budget of (around) Rp144 billion for seven bridges,” Head of the Data and Information Center (Pusdatin) of the Directorate General of Highways (Dinas Bina Marga) at DKI Jakarta, Wiwik Wahyuni, informed in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The bridges comprise three bridges on rivers and four pedestrian bridges.

She informed that the four pedestrian bridges will come up in Mas Mansyur Street, West Sunter, Dukuh, and Cililitan Wholesale Center (PGC).

Meanwhile, the Widya Chandra Bridge, the Irigasi Sejajar (East Flood Canal) Bridge, and the Cipinang Besar Bridge will be built on rivers.

The construction of Cipinang Besar Bridge is proposed to commence in 2025. However, the plan for the construction project will need to be drawn in 2024.

Wahyuni said that the bridge’s construction is one of the yearly targets of the 2023–2026 Regional Development Plan (RPD) of the regional government of DKI Jakarta that needs to be executed.

Earlier, a member of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Justin Adrian, had asked the acting head of Dinas Bina Marga DKI Jakarta, Heru Suwondo, to explain the Rp145 billion (around US$9,223) budget for the pedestrian bridges.

“We ask for a detailed explanation. I do not dare to approve this; do not let it become a finding,” Adrian said in Jakarta on October 13, 2023.

He highlighted information from the Smart Planning Budgeting 2024 Draft Local Government Budget (RAPBD) posted on the apbd.jakarta.go.id website. According to the information, Dinas Bina Marga will construct three pedestrian bridges, but the location details are not provided.
