Lumajang, East Java (ANTARA) - The East Java government will complete the renovation of two Lumajang bridges, Kaliregoyo and Kloposawit, which were damaged due to cold lava flow from Mount Semeru, within two months.

"The reconstruction of Kaliregoyo and Kloposawit bridges is the responsibility of the East Java government," said East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa in a statement received in Lumajang on Monday.

She inspected the 150-meter Kaliregoyo Bridge in Kebondeli village, Sumberwuluh, Candipuro, on Sunday. She also reviewed the 35.85-meter Kloposawit Bridge, which connects Kloposawit and Tumpeng villages in Candipuro sub-district.

"For the Kloposawit Bridge, the plan is to construct a bailey bridge, and it is expected that the bailey bridge's construction can be completed within two months, as the bridge's foundation is still strong," Parawansa said.

She said that the reconstruction of Kali Glidik II Bridge, which connects Malang and Lumajang districts, is being handled by the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, and the project is currently underway.

Other issues, such as damage to a bridge connecting Limpas to Nguter and Kalibiru Bridge, will be resolved by the Lumajang government in collaboration with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

The governor then commended the collaborative efforts made by all stakeholders, including the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, BNPB, PLN (state electricity company), National Search and Rescue Agency, the East Java government, the Lumajang government, and volunteers.

She also reviewed the disaster's impact on South Kebondeli, where a dam was damaged, while four houses were badly damaged by currents, four houses sustained moderate damage, and six houses were mildly damaged.

In Kloposawit village, one house was dragged away by strong currents, two houses were inundated, and two houses were mildly damaged. The residents of those two areas have sought refuge in their families' houses or in shelters.

Lumajang district head Thoriqul Haq said that the South Kebondeli area, which was on the lava flow line, has been designated as a dangerous zone since the eruption of Semeru.

"We are ensuring that the residents of the damaged houses have permanent residence in the designated relocation area," he informed.

He also said that his administration is helping to move people's belongings from their houses to the relocation area.
