We will patrol the rivers in Papua with this ship. The Yapero ship is fit for river combat since it is bulletproof…
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy has taken the delivery of a maritime security patrol ship (Patkamla) called Yapero, which has been entirely designed and built in Indonesia.

Navy Deputy Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Ahmadi Heri Purwono said Patkamla Yapero was built by domestic shipbuilding company PT Tesco Indomaritim in Bekasi, West Java.

"This is a domestic product innovation to accommodate our maneuver in small straits and rivers," Purwono informed at the ship delivery event at Marina Beach, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

He said the exterior of the ship is covered in steel and is bulletproof. Therefore, the newest naval ship has been included in the category of special mission combat boats, which will be escorted by special forces.

However, the steel coating was imported from abroad as were the ship's engines, he pointed out.

Purwono said that the domestic component level (TKDN) of the Patkamla Yapero is 45 percent.

"We still had to purchase the machines from abroad. If we can build our own engine, maybe the TKDN can reach 100 percent," he added.

He said the new ship will be used to patrol the waters around Timika, Papua. Thus, it will work under the auspices of the Merauke Main Naval Base (Lantamal) XI.

"The intensity of danger in that area is quite high. We will patrol the rivers in Papua with this ship. The Yapero ship is fit for river combat since it is bulletproof and equipped with sufficient weapons," he added.

He further said that Patkamla Yapero is 18.3 meters long and 4.2 meters wide, and is capable of sailing at a maximum speed of 35 knots, a cruising speed of 35 knots, and an economical speed of 15 knots.

The fuel capacity of the ship is 3,600 liters, while its freshwater tank capacity is 300 liters. The ship can accommodate 7 crew and 14 personnel.

Purwono informed that the ship is equipped with a Furuno type 1835 radar, a Voyager magnetic compass, and a Furuno FCV-688 echo sounder. The ship also has one 12.7 mm and two 7.62 mm guns.

The ship is capable of performing maneuvers such as making sudden turns and sailing in zigzags since it has been designed for patrols and pursuits.
