Jakarta (ANTARA) - General Election Commission (KPU) Chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari stated that the results of health checks undergone by three pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates would be announced to the public on Friday (October 27).

Three pairs have been registered to run for the 2024 presidential election, namely Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, and Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

"According to the plan, on October 27, at around 2 p.m., the health checker team of the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital will convey the results of a series of medical tests undergone by the three candidates to the KPU at our office," he stated at Gatot Subroto Hospital, Jakarta, on Thursday.

On Thursday, the presidential and vice presidential candidates nominated by the Onward Indonesia Coalition (KIM) -- Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka -- undergo the health examination.

Meanwhile, Head of the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital Lieutenant General Dr. Albertus Budi Sulistya stated that the examination process would take eight to 10 hours.

"At the request of the KPU, this morning, the health checker team will conduct the examination on Mr. Prabowo Subianto and Mr. Gibran Rakabuming Raka," he noted at the hospital.

Sulistya further revealed that the materials, team, tools, and schedule of the health examination on the pair were exactly the same as those for the two other pairs that had earlier undergone the checks.

"The checker team and the examination tools are all the same, so the results will be consistent with standards. The series of tests will be conducted for eight to 10 hours. After concluding the tests, the pair will hold a press conference here," he pointed out.

Earlier, two other presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs had undergone the health examination process at the hospital. Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar pair participated in the examination on Saturday (October 21) and was followed by Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD on Sunday (October 22).

The KPU will announce the results of verification of registration documents submitted by the three pairs on November 13, 2023, before drawing the serial numbers for the candidates the day after.

Based on Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections, presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs must be proposed by political parties or coalition of political parties participating in the election that meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the number of House of Representatives (DPR) seats or obtaining 25 percent from valid votes nationally in the earlier DPR member elections.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament. Hence, the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair in the 2024 presidential election must have the support of a minimum of 115 seats in the DPR.

Candidate pairs can also be nominated by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 General Election, with a minimum total of 34,992,703 valid votes.
