Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Police Commissioner General Petrus Reinhard Golose inaugurated the first anti-narcotics museum of Indonesia at the headquarters of the agency in Jakarta on Monday.

"This morning, we officiated the anti-narcotics museum. This museum showcases our victory in the battle against narcotics," Golose told the media after the inauguration ceremony of the museum.

The museum is called Pranidha Ranajaya Ghanavara, which means a place that reflects BNN's successes in eradicating drugs.

He then highlighted that the newly officiated museum is the first of its kind in Indonesia.

"We have the first anti-narcotics museum in Indonesia. I repeat, an Indonesian anti-narcotics museum," he stated.

The BNN head explained that the museum was built to disseminate information on Indonesia's efforts to prevail in its war on the misuse of drugs.

Furthermore, he noted that the museum will update the artifacts and documentation it exhibits in the hopes of continuously providing the public with up-to-date information on drug eradication efforts.

"This museum applies the concept of a smart museum, meaning it will continue to update not only the artifacts but also documentation. This is also a place where the young people can learn," he remarked.

Former BNN head Ahwil Luthan as well as the agency's former acting head Togar M. Sianipar also attended the museum's inauguration ceremony.

On the occasion, Luthan underscored the importance of the museum in the efforts to eradicate narcotics in the homeland.

"I believe this (museum) is important because narcotics eradication efforts require the involvement of all elements of society and cannot solely rely on the BNN. This is a good place for learning," he remarked.

Sianipar, on his part, made a similar statement, saying that support from all elements of society is of the essence to put maximum pressure on the misuse of drugs.

"The 6th President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, once highlighted a saying, namely 'nation in arms', which refers to the need for all elements of the nation to participate in the war on drugs," he elaborated.

It only took the BNN a month to complete the development of the rooms of the newly opened anti-narcotics museum.

The museum combines digital archives in the form of video and photo and artifacts containing historical values related to the BNN and drug eradication measures. As many as 457 artifacts are being displayed in the museum.
