Jakarta (ANTARA) - Health Ministry's Technical Staff for Health Transformation Communication Makhyan Jibril Al Farabi appealed to the public to be aware of the dangers of heart rhythm disturbances, or arrhythmias, which are characterized by irregular heartbeats.

"The principle of the heart beating is a standard rhythm, which means the electrical signals (are) being conducted (uninterrupted) throughout your heart and the blood pumping is good," he stated during a talk show related to arrhythmias management monitored online here on Monday.

"If it is not standard, it will cause food to not reach the body, (the heart will) not have the strength to pump blood, and (will) cause people to faint," he remarked.

Al Farabi pointed out that anyone regardless of age can develop symptoms of arrhythmia. He noted that even those active in sports, such as athletes, have a risk of arrhythmia.

He said that arrhythmias are caused by various factors, such as genetics, lack of electrolytes, and consumption of certain drugs that affect the heart's functioning.

Hence, Al Farabi appealed to the public to recognize the risk of heart disease through the Pulse Feeling movement, or what could be called MeNaRi, so as to recognize the working of each individual's heart.

"(This is) so that we can be aware of this, (and) we can feel the pulse using our own fingers. The normal heart rate reaches approximately 60-100 beats per minute," he remarked.

If the heart rate is more than 100, then a person must be alert while doing cardiac exercises. He said a heart that beats quickly or is pounding at a faster pace can be identified through several signs, such as shortness of breath while walking, getting tired easily, and feeling like fainting.

Meanwhile, if the pulse is slower, then such people are advised to immediately get their heart rate checked and also provide them with cardiac pacing assistance.

If such a condition is left untreated, then it will cause fainting and a feeling of blurred vision.

Hence, he appealed to the public to heed to heart health and always live a healthy life by diligently engaging in physical activity, eating healthy food, and getting sufficient rest.
