Jakarta (ANTARA) - Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah has asked village residents who wish to work abroad to follow the official procedures set by the government to ensure their protection before, during, and after employment.

"Make sure if you want to work abroad, before leaving the village or the district, you have been registered with the village office and the Manpower Office. Follow the procedures correctly," she said, according to a statement released on Monday.

During her working visit to the Widarapayung Wetan Productive Migrant Village (Desmigratif) in Binangun, Cilacap, Central Java, on Monday, Fauziyah asked village residents to make sure to use registered Indonesian migrant workers' placement companies (P3MI).

"By following the placement process correctly, it is hoped that your wishes to improve your family's standard of living can be fulfilled, all your rights as workers will be fulfilled, and you will return to Indonesia from work healthily, safely, and successfully," she said.

The protection of Indonesian migrant workers is a joint concern of the central, regional, and village governments, Fauziyah added.

She said that the role of village government officials, the community, and retired Indonesian migrant workers is vital when it comes to providing information about the correct procedures for working abroad to job seekers.

"This is because it would be easier for jobseekers to interact with the village environment where they live," she explained.

On that occasion, she also stated that Cilacap is the second district that sends the most number of migrant workers abroad.

She asked that assistance be given to people who want to work abroad through the One-Stop Integrated Service at Desmigratif, including those who want to check job vacancies abroad.

She said that Desmigratif is one of the ways to assist the community through four programs, namely migration information, productive economy involving families, community parenting, and cooperatives.

"The principle is if you want to go abroad, you should not be fooled by agents who only want to make a profit without taking responsibility for the protection," she added.
