Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the Nusantara National Capital development project in East Kalimantan increases demand in the construction sector.

"The Nusantara Capital development (increases) demand in the construction sector," Hartarto remarked here on Wednesday.

According to the minister, infrastructure development in the country is important in boosting the national economy amid the uncertain global economic situation.

"We know that in a difficult economic situation, the most important thing is to build infrastructure in our own country," he emphasized.

The government leverages the economy by boosting the Nusantara project and other national strategic projects, he explained.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) stated that the role of Indonesian contractors in the construction of the Nusantara project is essential.

Various constructions of buildings in the new capital city, including ministry and agency buildings as well as apartments, are built by contractors.

The Nusantara project is expected to be the pride of the nation that can open up job opportunities for the local communities.

The PUPR Ministry's Director General of Housing, Iwan Suprijanto, stated that Indonesian contractors have a vital role in supporting the construction of buildings in Nusantara.

He expected that Indonesian contractors can increase their competitiveness and provide reliable construction for the nation.

He highlighted that contractors need to maintain the quality of construction and open up job opportunities for communities living in proximity to the project.

Through collaboration, contractors can fulfill aspects of quality, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability needed in infrastructure development.

Indonesia has set a goal to become one of the five strongest economies by 2045.

The relocation of the national capital to Nusantara in East Kalimantan is a strategy to realize Indonesia's 2045 economic target of more inclusive and equitable economic growth.
