Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has reiterated that the development of the new national capital (IKN) Nusantara will continue even after a shift of power in government post the general elections.

On the sidelines of a working visit to the site of Nusantara's development in Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, on Thursday, he highlighted that the development of Indonesia's future capital has been laid down by law.

"There is a law regarding IKN. The law received support from 93 percent of the factions in the DPR (House of Representatives). What else to be questioned? I repeat, 93 percent," he stressed.

He noted that the government is currently preparing for the development of the state palace, presidential and vice presidential offices, and buildings of ministries, as well as the infrastructure required for supplying electricity and water at IKN.

The government is also making efforts to attract more investors and business actors to participate in the development of the city.

The government has been making serious efforts to build hotels, hospitals, trade centers, schools, and a football training center for the past two or three months, Widodo said.

The total realization of investment in IKN Nusantara will reach Rp45 trillion (US$2.8 billion) by the end of the year, he informed.

"However, it should be noted that this is not a project that can be finished by next year. It could take 15 years, 20 years, or only 10 years, if the private sector contributes significantly," he said.

The head of state then noted that 20 percent of the city's development budget will come from the APBN (State Budget), while the rest from the private sector.

Furthermore, he affirmed that infrastructure for electricity networks in IKN has been prepared. He then said he has instructed related parties to install electricity cables underground so that Nusantara City will have a beautiful and tidy layout.

"All the cables are (going to be) underground," the President stated.
