"The two countries have been maintaining a good level of relations for about 60 years and have been collaborating in lowering carbon emissions to handle climate change," Sumadi noted in his opening remarks at the 75th Anniversary of KfW, as cited from a statement received here on Wednesday.
Sumadi noted that the transportation sector had been playing a role as one of the most significant contributors to the amount of carbon emissions generated, adding that the Transportation Ministry had been striving to create an eco-friendly transportation system to address that matter.
The German Government, through the KfW Development Bank, agreed to finance the development of green transportation systems in several cities in Indonesia.
The development of the systems of bus rapid transit (BRT) in Semarang, Central Java, and Surabaya, East Java, as well as the railway in Surabaya, serve as examples of the implementation of both countries' green transportation cooperation.
"We hope that more green transportation projects will be commenced and in line with the 2025-2029 RPJMN (National Mid-Term Development Plan)," Minister Sumadi stated.

Earlier in July this year, the minister had met with Frank Bohnet, the head of Asia Region of the KfW Development Bank.
On that occasion, Bohnet stated that his side supported the development of urban mass transportation systems in Semarang and Surabaya, saying that such systems are more efficient and environmentally-friendly.
"In Surabaya, we support the integration of the systems of railway with road transport. In Semarang, we support the development of bus rapid transit," Bohnet had stated.
Last year, during the 48th G7 Summit in Germany, President Joko Widodo commended Germany's commitment to participating in the financing of the implementation of green infrastructure initiative projects aimed at mitigating the impacts of carbon emissions in Indonesia.
