Jakarta (ANTARA) - New Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Marthinus Hukom, vouched to leave no stone unturned to impoverish drug networks by stopping their supply, demand, and financial support.

"There are three aspects in drug trafficking that need attention, namely supply, demand, and financial support. We have to stop those three to impoverish the drug dealers," he stated after being inaugurated by President Joko Widodo as BNN Head at the State Palace here on Friday.

He remarked that the involvement of irresponsible law enforcement officials and state servants could make drug networks stronger.

Hence, Hukom said he will not tolerate the involvement of National Police (Polri) and Indonesian Military (TNI) members and civil servants in drug trafficking.

"We have to weaken the structures of these networks. We must also weaken their financial resources, so that they do not have the slightest opportunity to engage in drug trafficking," he remarked.

Hukom is serious about taking strict action against law enforcement officials involved in drug trafficking.

"Before coming here, I had coordinated with the Chief of Police to ask for his support to solve (drug trafficking networks) to the structural level," he revealed.

Hukom said he will meet TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto to seek support in fighting drug trafficking.

"I will coordinate with Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister (Abdullah Azwar Anas) and other ministers to help 'clean the structure,'" he remarked.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appointed Inspector General Hukom as head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), replacing Petrus Golose who has retired.

Hukom earlier held the post of Head of Counterterrorism Special Detachment 88 and was one of the police officers involved in the operation to arrest the Bali bomber Ali Imron.
