We have also coordinated with the Port Health Office (KKP) to report any suspected case…Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Head of the Bali Provincial Health Service, I Nyoman Gede Anom, said that his party has implemented anticipatory measures at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport’s international gates amid a mycoplasma pneumonia spike in China.
"We are prioritizing COVID-19, monkeypox, and mycoplasma pneumonia detection at the airport. We have also coordinated with the Port Health Office (KKP) to report any suspected case to be immediately referred to the hospital," he informed in Denpasar on Friday.
So far, there has been no case of mycoplasma pneumonia in Bali. However, considering the high number of tourist visits, the agency will remain vigilant and prepare health facilities if symptoms of the disease are detected.
Anom has also asked pediatricians to immediately refer suspected mycoplasma pneumonia cases for specimen examination to Surabaya since the equipment required for the examination is not available in Bali.
He said that his party has so far treated common pneumonia cases in Indonesia, which are different from the infection currently spreading in China. In 2022, at least 5,269 cases of pneumonia were treated in the country. As per the latest data, 4,977 cases have been recorded this year.
According to him, the anticipatory measures against the transmission of mycoplasma pneumonia during the year-end holidays are also being supported by I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport through the installation of five body thermal scanners and the deployment of KKP officers.
"As an initial mitigation measure, five body thermal scanners to scan passengers' temperature have been placed at the international arrival and departure gates. Officers from Denpasar KKP will supervise it and also visually observe symptoms of travelers," the acting general manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Iwan Novi Hantoro, confirmed separately.
He said that if a passenger shows symptoms, they will be separated from other passengers and will be handled by the KKP.
Hantoro added that mitigation measures at the airport are being carried out comprehensively and equally for all foreign nationals arriving at the airport.
"To date, no arriving passenger has been found with mycoplasma pneumonia at this airport," he informed.
