Denpasar (ANTARA) - I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali will now require visitors using four or more wheeled vehicles to pay for parking with electronic money cards during certain hours.

The step is in preparation for the implementation of unmanned parking from December 1, 2023. Since the start of the trial on November 9, there has been a twofold increase in the use of electronic money cards from the general daily average of 20 percent to 41 percent.

"Currently, as an effort to encourage more use of non-cash transactions, we will carry out familiarization with service users at certain hours considering the volume of vehicles in the airport entry and exit areas," I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport's general manager, Handy Heryudhitiawan, said in Denpasar on Thursday.

Thus, visitors using electronic money cards will need to use a card with sufficient funds when they enter the airport. They will have to use the same card when they leave.

"Officers will convey this information at every vehicle entrance. If there are drivers who haven't prepared or have an electronic money card, officers will help with the process of purchasing the card and topping up the balance," Heryudhitiawan informed.

Currently, his party has installed dispenser machines to issue cards at all entrances for four or more wheeled vehicles in the hope that before the formal implementation, people can become used to using the facility.

"The entry process will be the same as for entering a toll gate," he said.

Earlier, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport implemented a cash and non-cash (cashless) parking payment system, which still involved counter officers for processing payments and the use of tickets.

Heryudhitiawan said he hopes that the new unmanned parking payment process will have a positive impact, namely it will make vehicle parking transactions simpler, more effective, and environmentally friendly.

He appealed to airport service users who have not carried out non-cash parking transactions to get electronic money cards and ensure that they have sufficient balance for transactions because the trial period will conclude at the end of November.

The electronic money cards that can be used to pay for parking at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport are e-Money from Bank Mandiri, Brizzi from Bank BRI, Tap Cash from BNI, and Flazz from BCA.

"The electronic money card can be purchased and have its balance topped up at bank offices or mini markets. Also, BCA, BRI, BNI and Bank Mandiri electronic money cards are available and can be purchased through officers at the airport entrance and exit," he said.
