This is a positive revival for the aviation and tourism sectors, especially in Bali,
Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - The number of passengers served by I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali increased by 169 percent in January 2023 compared to the year-ago period.

"In January 2023, we were able to serve 1,568,793 passengers, an increase of 169 percent when compared to passengers in January 2022. This is a positive revival for the aviation and tourism sectors, especially in Bali," the general manager of the airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, said in Badung district, Bali, on Wednesday.

The increase in passenger numbers was influenced by the opening of international flights since March 2022, he added.

"In January 2023, we served 810,930 international passengers consisting of 383,288 international passengers arriving and 427,642 international passengers departing from Bali airport," Heryudhitiawan informed.

International passenger traffic will continue to increase in the future with the plan to add more international flight routes to Bali, he projected.

So far, most international passengers are arriving in Bali via the Singapore route (168,744 passengers), followed by the Kuala Lumpur route (99,979 passengers) and the Melbourne route (73,258 passengers).

"However, if we look for each country, the Australian route contributed the most passengers with 271,667 passengers served by flights to and from 7 cities in Australia," Heryudhitiawan said.

Meanwhile, domestic flights operating from Bali Airport have also recorded growth. During January this year, as many as 757,863 domestic passengers departed from and arrived at the airport.

The figure reflected an increase of 27 percent compared to January last year, Heryudhitiawan disclosed.

He said that domestic flights from Soekarno Hatta International Airport were the largest contributors to passenger traffic with 328,939 passengers served.

"The second largest contributor to traffic is the Surabaya flight route with 85,433 passengers, and Ujung Pandang with 42,717 passengers," he added.
