“We have finished (work on) two dams upstream, the Ciawi Dam and Sukamahi Dam. (The dams) will significantly reduce flooding in Jakarta,” the president stated in Sentiong, Jakarta, on Monday.
Widodo also remarked that the lowering of the Ciliwung water tunnels has been completed. These tunnels will carry water from Ciliwung River to the East Flood Canal. It will also continue the Ciliwung River normalization program, for which 17 kilometers had been left.
“Today, the Sentiong Water Pump Station in Ancol is completed, which costs Rp481 billion (US$30.8 million). With the completion of (projects) upstream, midstream, and downstream (here) in Sentiong, we express hope that flooding in Jakarta will decrease by about 62 percent,” he noted.
The president stated that the Ancol Sentiong Pump Station is Indonesia’s biggest pump station.
“I express hope that the pump station would reduce flooding in seven sub-districts in Jakarta. Bismillahirrahmanirrahim (in the name of Allah, the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful), this afternoon, I am inaugurating the Ancol Sentiong Pump Station in North Jakarta, Jakarta Province,” the president stated.
Meanwhile, acting governor of Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, stated in a report that the Ancol Sentiong Pump Station is a flood control infrastructure that will reduce the risk of flooding in seven sub-districts.
Hartono remarked that the Jakarta regional government is committed to cooperating with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing on infrastructure development.
