Jakarta (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan gave three to four months for the trial period of the TikTok and Tokopedia collaboration system.

"This is an experiment for three to four months during which we will assess and see what it looks like. TikTok is not the e-commerce, but Tokopedia acts as the e-commerce," he stated at the National Online Shopping Day 12.12 press conference here on Tuesday.

According to Hasan, the collaboration system between TikTok and Tokopedia is a type of high technology that needs to undergo a trial-and-error period.

The minister explained that the collaborative effort of the two aims to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sell their products on the e-platform. During this ongoing trial period, Hasan urged both platforms to prioritize local products.

In addition, the decision of the two platforms to collaborate aims to improve e-commerce governance, especially related to imports and exports to protect MSME players in Indonesia.

"We are building this ecosystem, so e-commerce can benefit the people, MSMEs, and domestic industry. We have fixed the governance and ceased the post-border policy. Our domestic industry cannot be threatened anymore," he stated.

According to Hasan, the government's support for MSMEs is proven through Trade Minister's Regulation No.31 of 2023 that bans economic transactions on social media platforms.

The minister affirmed that the regulation aims to create a fair, healthy, and beneficial e-commerce ecosystem by paying attention to dynamic technological developments.

PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk has officially announced a strategic partnership with entertainment platform TikTok to strengthen the growth of Indonesia's digital economy, with a focus on empowering and expanding the market for national MSME players.
