Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the construction of the office of Special Resort Police of the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, on Thursday.

"Praise be to God, this morning, we will launch the development of the office of Nusantara's Special Resort Police. The construction will take about nine months to complete, with a budget of Rp160 billion (US$10.3 million)," he remarked during the groundbreaking ceremony for the office development.

During the ceremony that was followed virtually from Jakarta, the president noted that the special resort police's building will cover 6,189 square meters of land in an area of approximately 12 hectares.

"Considering that this building will host a special resort police, its design must also be special. I want this building to follow the concept of green building, as this area is supposed to be a green zone, a green environment. I demand that the design be adjusted to the green building concept," he stated.

He also remarked that as many as 750 personnel will be stationed in the special resort police.

"I am delighted to learn that the personnel have been prepared by the Regional Police of East Kalimantan. Hence, the 750 personnel can be immediately transferred to the special resort police once the construction of its building concludes," he pointed out.

President Jokowi expressed hope that the existence of the Nusantara Special Resort Police would genuinely improve services and protection for the people, strengthen law enforcement, as well as boost stability and security in Indonesia's future capital.

The president then said that he was briefed by the National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo that IKN Nusantara will be monitored with CCTVs installed at every corner of the city that would be connected to a command center and an artificial intelligence-powered analyzer.

The head of state urged the police to make proper preparations for executing the plan, so that Nusantara will be a model city that is safe and free from crimes.

"I hope that IKN Nusantara will emerge as a benchmark for other cities," he said.
