Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice presidential candidate number 3 Mahfud MD outlined three strategies for improving Indonesia's export performance during the vice presidential debate at the Jakarta Convention Center on Friday.

"Based on a discussion with my running mate, Ganjar Pranowo, we have prepared three strategies (to improve export performance)," Mahfud informed.

The first strategy will be to encourage economic diplomacy through ambassadors posted abroad.

Mahfud said that the strategy will be in line with President Joko Widodo's directive regarding ambassadors serving as agents of economic diplomacy with other countries.

Second, together with Pranowo, Mahfud will seek to integrate national trade with global trade to introduce international standards in national trade.

"All of our goods must be able to enter the global market with acceptable standards," he said.

Meanwhile, he said that the third strategy will be increasing the competitiveness of the national economy.

"We will prioritize strengthening the national economy to grow and have international standards for global trade," he informed.

The vice presidential candidate debate was part of a series of election debates held by the General Elections Commission (KPU). Earlier, the commissions held a presidential candidate debate on December 12, 2023.

Besides Mahfud, the debate was attended by two vice presidential candidates, namely Muhaimin Iskandar and Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

The theme of the second debate included people's economy, digital economy, finance, investment, taxes, trade, state budget and regional budget management, infrastructure, and cities.

In the first presidential debate, the three candidates, Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto, and Ganjar Pranowo, conveyed their arguments regarding governance, law, and human rights, as well as corruption eradication, democratic strengthening, public service improvement, and the creation of harmony among citizens.

KPU chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari asked the public to listen and pay attention to the ideas, vision, and mission shared by the vice presidential candidates.
