Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Labor Inspection Team of the Manpower Ministry is collecting data on the causes of work accidents at the PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) in Morowali District, Central Sulawesi, that occurred on December 24.

"A team from the Ministry of Manpower's Labor Inspectorate has been carrying out inspections since December 25 to obtain evidence related to the causes of work accidents," the ministry's Director General of Manpower and OSH, Haiyani Rumondang, noted in a statement received on Wednesday.

In obtaining data and information related to the accident, her side coordinated with the Central Sulawesi Labor Inspectorate, Workers Social Security Program (BPJS) for Employment, and the Morowali Police.

She remarked that the Labor Inspection Team then sought information from the management of PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS), the company where the smelter furnace caught fire. The team also gathered information from the management of PT Ocean Sky Metal Indonesia (OSMI) regarding the company's workers who became victims of the accident.

In addition, Rumondang remarked that the Labor Inspection team visited the location of the smelter fire and met the injured victims being treated at PT IMIP Clinic 2 and at the Morowali Regional Hospital.

She then urged the Labor Inspectorate to ensure that the rights of all workers, both those who died and those injured, be fulfilled by the provisions of Law Number 24 of 2011 concerning Social Security Administering Agency.

"If the inspection carried out by the Labor Inspection Team found any violation, such as not implementing labor provisions, namely work regulation and OSH (occupational safety and health) regulation, of course, legal steps will be taken in the future," she emphasized.

She expressed hope that this incident would become a valuable lesson for the employment sector in the future to avoid recurrence of such an accident.

Rumondang said her side would continue to monitor the implementation of improvements by the company management as a follow-up to findings from her team.
