"We advise people to not carry out convoys or processions because it may disturb other people,” Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations Police Grand Commissioner Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko told the press in Jakarta on Friday.
Apart from convoys, Andiko also requested people to desist from committing acts that might disrupt peace and safety.
“No processions, and avoid actions that might potentially disrupt peace and safety in society,” he emphasized.
Polda Metro Jaya and the Municipal Police of DKI Jakarta (Satpol PP) have prepared personnel, security, and public complaint posts along the MH Thamrin and Jenderal Sudirman streets as well as city and district streets for New Year’s Eve.
“We will control peace and order during New Year’s Eve in many public spaces and help assist the flow of visitors around events and entertainment stages,” Head of Satpol PP DKI Jakarta Arifin stated in Jakarta on Thursday (December 28).
Arifin remarked that a total of 1,640 personnel will be guarding the 2024 New Year’s Eve.
“We will dispatch 930 personnel for the ‘Malam Muda Mudi Jakarta Global’ (Jakarta Global Youth Night) event along Sudirman-Thamrin Street,” he stated.
As many as 360 personnel will safeguard activities at the city and district levels, whereas the other 350 personnel will be tasked with guarding public places on the following day (January 1, 2024).
“We are trying to minimize the violation of local regulations. For example, street vendors and people in need of social welfare, such as homeless people, beggars, et cetera,” Arifin said.
Satpol PP DKI Jakarta will also set up 56 security and public complaint posts along the MH Thamrin-Jenderal Sudirman streets to address people’s complaints, such as separation of family members, separation of children, and loss of valuable items.
